Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to join its Finance team. Reporting to the CFO, this newly created position will be a high-impact and high-profile role and will frequently interact with the senior executives. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, will be hands-on and detail oriented, seek to understand the “bigger picture” and add strategic value. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a keen interest in being part of a high-growth, entrepreneurial company. This role will create the formal FP&A function at Ascendant. It will initially be supported by existing members of the finance team and will build out the FP&A function as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for corporate planning and forecasting to support strategic planning, reporting and provision of advice and insight to the business leaders.
  • Support with building structure around the budgeting process to drive P&L alignment and accountability with all functions.
  • Analyze and investigate P&L performance and variances between plan/forecast and actual results.
  • Understand the operating and economic environment and take into account business outlook to drive performance.
  • Provide decision support, financial and analytical counsel to facilitate decision-making around strategic business initiatives; act as a key finance business partner to leaders across the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to drive revenue, optimize margins, and reduce costs.
  • Communicate results to business leads and operational teams.
  • Develop and report metrics and KPIs to benchmark against company targets.
  • Support M&A or other corporate activities.
  • Prepare various ad hoc analysis and projects to assist with the management of the business.
  • Guide and mentor supporting members of the finance team, fostering  strong relationships across the company.
  • Build out the FP&A function as the business scales.

What would make this an easy win:

  • University degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Professional designation such as CPA, CFA or MBA.
  • Minimum of 7+ years finance experience, demonstrating progressive responsibility, including a minimum of 3+ years of FP&A or investment banking experience. Experience at a financial institution or payments company is an asset.
  • People management experience and strong collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, experience in meeting deadlines with multiple deliverables.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong background in financial modelling (advanced Microsoft Excel skills).
  • Experience with big data tools an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task and executed with precision; strong attention to detail and follow through; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Operations Administrator

Position Overview

As an Operations Administrator, you are responsible for providing support for the operations team through effective administration duties. The operations team is responsible for transmission of international payments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, quality customer service
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations
  • Balance daily branch activities
  • Perform cheque exchanges and double check each for accuracy
  • Perform bank deposits (i.e. transport and deposit to bank)
  • Responsible for creating FX Cheques/Drafts for our clients
  • Send faxes and emails to clients as required
  • Perform filing and related client file management activities
  • Courier and delivery processing
  • Support other branch team members to achieve goals
  • Understand and follow company risk management rules and policies
  • Perform all other reasonable duties as requested by management

What would make this an easy win

  • 1 – 3 years experience in a financial institution in an administrative role
  • Strong with multiple computer systems
  • Detail oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks within time constraints
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Knowledge of financial transactions or banking
  • Foreign exchange or Banking Settlements experience – an asset
  • MS Office Suite knowledge
  • Motivated to work independently and accomplish objectives
  • Focused on team success – a participative team member
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills – verbal and written
  • Customer service oriented with effective follow-up skills
  • Positive attitude towards and ability to effectively adapt to change
  • Ability to assimilate and apply new job-related information in a timely manner
